We have partnered with the University of Salford, offering high-quality tuition to year 6 pupils from Salford schools. Our partnership aims to support pupils as they prepare to transition to secondary school, ensuring they have the academic skills they need to succeed.

Together, we are creating a new opportunity where university undergraduates tutor local Year 6 pupils in key subjects such as maths and English. These tutors, in turn, are gaining valuable teaching experience and paid employment, while also inspiring the next generation of university applicants.

Our unique partnership with the University of Salford is an exciting example of community cohesion. We’re delighted that University of Salford students will be tutoring in schools across Salford, inspiring hundreds of pupils. We know how much our tutees value support from tutors who come from similar backgrounds to them, and how rewarding it is for our tutors as well. This partnership is a win-win for everyone involved.”
Ed Marsh, CEO of The Tutor Trust

Nic Beech, Vice Chancellor of the University of Salford, expressed his excitement about the partnership:

“We are delighted to be partnering with The Tutor Trust to pilot this program in Salford. As a University, we pride ourselves on empowering students to achieve their academic and career ambitions, regardless of their background. This work is very much part of our commitment to helping enrich lives in Salford and beyond.”

The partnership helps fill the gap for pupils who may not have access to private tutoring, offering invaluable support. The goal of the program is to reach 400 pupils in Salford in its first year. By providing tutoring to these students, we hope to improve academic outcomes and inspire more local pupils to aspire to University life.

Lynne Barrow, Director of Student Recruitment at the University’s Business School, also shared her enthusiasm:

“The programme will support local pupils who would not otherwise have the means to afford private tutors. At the same time, we’ll be helping our students develop their own skills and confidence, not to mention providing them with a source of income too. We can’t wait to get started in the new year.”

This partnership has been made possible in part due to the generous support of Richard Donner and the Harrington Foundation, who are committed to helping the University of Salford reach more pupils in the local community. Their contribution ensures that the program can be delivered to schools in Salford at minimal cost, enabling even more pupils to benefit from this invaluable opportunity.
